Since the previous 1-80 armouring guide by frammelpie is way out of date, I thought I'd go through and edit/add some stuff.
While this is mostly about armour, some other info is peppered in as well.
Before starting, I want to make one thing crystal clear, DO NOT USE MQ2 /WARP, /SPEED, or any automation ANYWHERE on the server! This is against the rules, and will get you BANNED.
Recommended prerequisites:
Follow the instructions to download and set up your RoF2 Client below:
- RoF2 client
Recommended steps:
1. Pick a class that's easy to solo with for your first toon, or if you box, two classes you can box well.
2. If you like bots, here is a passable list of commands for you to tinker with. (OUTDATED use "^help" to find commands!)
3. Open your AA window and from the special tab and get the AA Lesson Of The Devoted (100 percent increase in xp gained per kill for 30 minutes).
4. Type #zone guildlobby, target Buff Master and say "buffs" for some low level buffs that can help you out.
5. /ooc is your friend. Type this: "/ooc Any chance we could get an HoI for a new player in GL?" If you get one, great, if not, move on. Not too many chanters around most hours. Again, I cannot stress this enough: /ooc is your friend. Ask any and all questions you have, no matter how newbie-ish or silly you think they are. Everyone here has been in your shoes and asked probably hundreds or thousands more questions than you will need to thanks to my guides.
6. Type #zone crescent -2027 -1325 -203. When you load in open the map and notice the little blocky caves jutting out east of the main grinding areas. Each cave has stat armor that drops - far better than what you're likely to get elsewhere, and, more importantly, it sells for a decent amount of platinum.
7. Keep in mind when you're killing mobs to at least LOOK at every dead mob's loot, as artifacts have a 1/200 chance to drop from ANY mob in the game - many artifacts have amazing stats for a starting player, and can be equipped and used at any level.
8. Also be on the lookout for Treasure Goblins - these guys can spawn after any even or higher level mob that you kill. They stick around for 30 seconds before despawning, so kill them quick! Their loot includes a backpack, and a Platinum pouch worth 6,000 platinum or more.
9. Use your Lesson of the Devoted AA and start leveling up as best you can.
10. Kill here until you've saved up 120p, then #zone guildlobby to purchase Velium Blue Diamond Ring from Merchant Drake. Snag some more buffs from buff master and repeat this step once if you're soloing, or three times if you're boxing. Your next purchases will most likely be from the bazaar, so during one of those trips to guildlobby, also #zone bazaar to have a look at what you need for your next desired piece of equipment.
11. Enjoy yourself in every zone you always wanted to level in but was too far to run in live or p99. #findzone (partial zone name) is your friend, "#findzone commons" will list all the Commonlands shortnames in order for you to #zone (shortname) to. Alternatively, you can use this list. Keep in mind, this server's progression doesn't allow you to level up in places like Paludal Caverns. Vanilla old-world zones only until Karnor's Castle.
Recommended zones to stop in at:
- Kaesora (#zone 88) - some drops sell for hundreds of pp to merchants. Great exp, too.
- Ocean of Tears (#zone 69) - Cyclops island is both surprisingly decent exp, and really, really good loot.
12. Around lvl 30-45 (depending on the gear you manage to get along the way through handouts and/or drops), start in on Tier 1 progression by killing the bosses the Tier NPC tells you to and looting a key from the resulting 'ghost' of that boss, and turning it into the keymaster standing next to them. The bosses you need to kill may be a bit too tough at this point, if so, change tactics, farm a bit more, gear a bit more, and try again!. Melee classes, don't forget to also pick up the Imperium's Fury task from the progression NPCs! Casters should just skip that part.
13. Most items you loot after old-world loot will not have a sell value, and if it's not useful to you, you can destroy it.
13.5 Many ask around level 60 where they should farm for exp. It will depend on too many variables, but the answers are usually Chardokb, Hateplaneb, Paw, and Karnor. Find what works for you.
14. Focus on getting flagged through PoP. Some zones DO have level requirements. Be really careful with PoP flagging, as a missed flag causes TONS of troubleshooting issues. Best to just get it right the first time. Measure twice, pull the trigger once.
14.5 The long way around here includes gearing yourself with potime gear, progressing through GoD and gearing yourself with GoD gear, then being able to actually participate in the daily quests at number 15. Since much of the Abyss gear is available to you though, there's not much need in doing that.
15. At 75, you can participate in daily quests. What I mean by "participate" is that you can acquire them from Deja Vu in guildlobby, then join a group of others as they do all the work. You will NOT be able to handle these mobs yourself, and getting killed means you don't get credit if a mob you need for your quest dies while you're out of the zone. Many will let you loot or roll on the infused armour/weapon drops if you're in the group with them. Finishing a daily quest will reward you with a bag that sells to merchants for roughly 70k platinum. Use this to fill out gear you have not yet looted.
16. Get to 80.
17. At 80, gather up 240 non-spent AAs and hail Greedy Goblin in guildlobby. Click "Alt_Currency", then click "Buy" that shares the same text line as "Swirling Sphere of Metamorphosis". Click "Yes" on the popup.
Congratulations, you can sell that to a merchant for ~60,000 platinum. Save for, or purchase gear you need from bazaar, or craft your visible infused gear in PotimeA.
18. Once you have your full set, even without augments this should allow you to pull relatively large numbers of mobs at once if you have a way to AE. Find Flame Hilted Hammer in bazaar for non-tank classes without spell ae, and Infused Necklace of Defense (clicky causes melee to be ae) for tanks.
19. Consider spending some AA on exp pots. They are sold on the Greedy Goblin (Click "Expendable") for 100aa each and increase your experience gain by 50 percent for 2 hours.
20. Once you have full infused, and preferably abyss non-vis, find the AA Vendor in guildlobby. You can give him platinum for AA. You'll need AA to create Infused Augments.
The rest of your gearing can pretty much be figured out between this guide and below. Most everything is droppable and can be bought in bazaar.
Notable Places to go for gear.
- Soldungc - Nameds drop non-vis infused.
- Tacvi - Tunat'Muram Cuu Vauax drops the only known power source in the game. It is no-drop. GoD Progression highly recommended.
- Tacvi - Various other boss mobs drop possibly BIS weapons.
- Feerrott2 - Dragons drop Avatar Essence for vis-infused and vis-abyss-infused gear. Caramon Majere drops abyss weapons and shields.
- InnothuleB - Named mobs drop weapon augs, and non-vis infused upgrade items.
- Hatesfury - Everything that's not vendor loot is no-drop. Named mobs drop abyss upgrade items for infused-vis and infused augs. Named mobs also drop focus effect slot 3 augs for abyss vis armour. Guardian can drop leg pattern and Captain can drop chest pattern.
- Sewers of Nihilia, Pool of Sludge - Farmable melee lifetap aug.
