I participated vigorously in the Easter event and I have some feedback. Some of this is personal and much of it is what I heard from a wide variety of other players.
- Duration: Both I and every person I talked about this with agree that the event it too long. Most of us got tired of the eggs and the whole thing after about 2 weeks. Please consider shortening the duration of the event.
- Basic Rewards: Generally, people like the basic rewards and so did I. The food and drink are good. the cosmetic items are funny, etc. Most also seem to agree that the swarm pet is not worth the effort as the damage and/or defense is too low for it to be useful.
- Word Selection: There is also a broad feeling that the available words is kinda limiting. A large number of letters have no use outside the alphabet combines for example and everyone is bottle-necked on "E", "R", & "N" eggs. A few additional words which maybe grant variants of the existing cosmetics (colorful spotted bunny or white/brown bunny) could help with this.
- Leaderboard: This feature was nice and it was interesting to see folks jockey for position.
- Final Reward: I think the suffix the 1st place player got is cool. That said, it definitely was not clear to me that the Easter leaderboard was a competition for a single prize. When there is one and only 1 prize and when victory is determined by a resource which is tradable then the contest is one where the ultra-wealthy or the larger guilds can only hope to win. I was pretty shocked to see that only 1st place received any sort of prize. A lot of people participated but I have a hunch that most of them did so for a specific reward like the mount or the food rewards and with no intent to try and place on the leaderboard. If those basic rewards were removed or placed on another NPC that did not track for the purposes of the leaderboards I think you would find that the leaderboard competition would drop to handful of people. I feel like the dynamic here is similar to fishing. We all HOPE to place first but we are still excited to place in the top ten because that is much more likely and it is also comes with some sort of reward. The fishing rewards encourage people to participate by incentivizing placing in the top ten. The Easter event was way more investment in time and effort than the 10k plat it takes to compete in fishing and there is no hope of reward if you don't place first. That is a strong disincentive. Both I and my wife plan to participate next year only to produce food and drink for our main characters and otherwise ignore the event. If you want to see more vigorous participation I'd suggest offering some consolation prizes for 2nd through 10th place. This could be as simple as a ticket that lets them buy a Paz upgrade item from an NPC or some less desirable suffixxes (the Cracked Egg, the Egg-celent, the Eggs-pert, the Good Egg, the Bad Egg, the Ovum Accumulator, etc.). If the consolation prizes are some item then obvious the 1st place person should receive that as well.
All in all I think the idea of this event is very cool. My intent is not to imply that it is bad or to complain. I genuinely hope that this feedback can make future events better. Thank you for running the event and the server!
