So, as anyone who might have glanced at the shoutbox of the past couple of days may have seen, I'm new to the community and wanted to try a server other than p99. However, I ran into an issue. Firstly, p99 works perfectly for me. I have no issue getting through login into server, character creation, playing for many many hours. Where the problem begins as far as I can tell is when trying to use a newer client. I will explain my steps below. 1. Download hybrid client as posted here. First thing you want to do going to a new server is obviously do a little research, which led me here and to the client posted here. I downloaded the client, set everything up, logged in, and created a character on the server. Once I tried logging the character in, I get a crash notification and a runtime error because of the program termination. 2. Errors happen, no reason to be discouraged. What can I do? Lets make a quick shout and see if anyone has seen the issue. 3. Keep testing. Download RoF2 from EZ, as it is also recommended on these forums. Same error. 4. Try logging into other servers. Tried EZ and Haven, both rated for RoF2. Same issue, server logs correctly, characters crash out. 5. Possible conflict of custom server files for whatever reason? Download RoF2 client that is as fresh as possible and retest. Same issue. 6. Test with known good client/server relationship. Loaded P99 Titanium client and tested on Imperium. Was able to create a character and log in. Obviously not viable for playing as I can't access many needed files with that client. 7. Back to newer client, possible multi core problem? Unlikely, but anything is worth a shot. Program shows 1 core play, force 1 core load anyway, verify running 1 core, same issue as above. 8. Atrayas points out a few new ideas; mq2 and characters on account. Awesome, new data that I hadn't thought about. Great idea to test. I don't have mq2 at all, so that can be ruled out. Create entirely new account from ground up, so no characters, same issue. At this point I can't think of anything else to test. If anyone else has an idea, please feel free to post it. I'll check in once a day or so. Hopefully we can find the issue.

Could be a window resolution problem, go into you're config file in your RoF2 directory and check what resolution the game is set to run at in the text file and possibly lower it to something ridiculous like 800x600. If that doesn't work, enable the run in a window. After you get up and running you'll be able to go into the in-game options to set the resolution properly. Can't think of anything else it could possibly be atm.

Hello,
Have you tried to run proper live Everquest? I would see if that will run first may be it will install some dependency files you are missing like the right ver of C++ runtime.

I was experiencing the same thing and basically installed the hybrid client linked here in the forums and I've bene using it ever since. I'm interested in knowing what you do to fix the rof client so don't give up! in the meantime, the hybrid client on these forums shouldn't give you this headache. Good luck and we look forward to seeing you in-game bud.

[VideoMode] Width=800 Height=600 FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32 FullscreenRefreshRate=60 WindowedWidth=800 WindowedHeight=600
Make the changes there and save the file. Restart your client and you should be good to go. I'm almost certain this is the problem you're encountering. A conflict with screen resolution.
You could also try hitting Alt+Enter at the character select screen to switch from window to fullscreen or vise versa. Since you can make it that far this may also all you to enter the world. Then in the in-game options you can alter the resolution to your liking from there.

I can log on fine and play fine however someone brought up the C++ thing. If i start from scratch and load 2 accounts on i almost never crash. However if i log one out and then log in a 3rd account you always get the server kick. Once that happens i would say at least 50% of the time when i log both accounts back in i crash and get a C++ error. happens all the time and is very frustrating, because i have to get kicked, log in, ony to crash from C++ and restart and login everything all over again. It makes logging on a 3rd account such a pita. Not sure if this happens to everyone or if its just me, i am running the hybrid client and thats it for what its worth.

This is a long shot but ensure you have proper files. Starting zone files like tutorialb and the sort. You should have them by default but always good to check the small things. Id also try sturms resolution fix as well. If you are running windows 10 try running in compatibility mode. If i think of anything else ill pop back in here.

Windows 7 Have tried in XP compatible. I realized I forgot to add that to the attempts above.
I am going to continue chronicling my troubleshooting adventures. I will be putting the posted ideas up to this post below and updating as I get them tested. Thanks for all your help guys.
<TESTED>1. Strum's resolution fix. This made perfect sense to me why it would happen. I wish it had been something so easy to overlook. Not fixed. <TESTED> 2. Breur's dependency files idea. I will be testing this in the near future, I can see where it might be a problem. Live version installing now, I will start patching it when I leave for work here shortly. So I should have an answer tomorrow. <TESTED>3. Atrayas' file check. I will go through the folder starting this evening and through tomorrow and make sure I'm not missing any. #CtrlF. File list is complete, issue persists. <TESTED>
Edit: Tests #3, computer restarted overnight interrupting Live Update. Working on update now to test #2.

Damn, I was sure that's what the issue was. Back to the drawing board!

Have you downloaded and installed DirectX 9.0c? That's usually an issue for older games.

DirectX 9.0c is fully operational. Redownloaded and verified to be sure.

Hi Zastii,
That error message box looks familiar but I think I saw it when I was setting up UT/HOF client on my Macbook using Wineskin (Not on my regular duo machine). Try this -> after starting EQ but before logging in, go to "Options", change resolution to the lowest like what Sturm recommended (might be 640x480 for your setup), turn off all character models, mounts, elementals etc. and additional "eye-candy" settings (read what each does, some you should leave the check-box checked). You will be able to turn them way up using the in-game Options once you get into the game. Once all settings are at their lowest, try log in again.
If above doesn't work, please provide your PC setup here (CPU, Graphics, OS etc.). Someone with a similar setup might be able to help further.
Cheers, Ath

So, conflict. I would love to continue troubleshooting with this system in the name of science and annoyance. However, weather it is a root cause of my issues or just icing on the cake, my system is now throwing fatal hardware errors at me. I am in the process of backing up important information right now, and as it is an 8 year old system, its time to build a new one.
All this being said; on Monday, I will be ordering parts for a new skylake build. Parts will likely be in next weekend, which means I will be postponing my attempts to play on the server until then.
Once again, thank you all for your help trying to get me up and running. I'll continue to lurk the forums, and hopefully without any issues will catch you all in a week or so.

Have my new computer built, and was able to log in yesterday albeit with large lag. I am sad I did not figure out why my older system had an issue, but glad I can play once the server is up again Issue Resolved by replacement system.
