Hello my fellow Adventurers!
DizzyBrownie here, over the last few weeks I've re-formatted a handful of guides from older forum posts, as well as created some of my own, to be more in line with Arek's Earring of the Solstice Guide, which I personally find to be the model for how a guide should be laid out. My reasoning is that his color-coded system, breakdown of steps, and conciseness makes some of the longer and more trade skill heavy quests much easier to manage.
My Goal
I see this curation task as an opportunity to touch-up some of the older guides on the forums that may be in need of a little formatting TLC. What I'm looking for help with is input in establishing formatting guidelines that we can use to keep guides consistent and easily digestible for new and returning players, along the framework that Arek's guides lay down.
This is not something to be accomplished overnight, but I think my goals for reformatting are as follows:
A) Consistent Content Sequencing - Some of the older guides don't include numbered steps or broken up quest-sections, which can lead to turn-in mistakes or missed steps.
B) Color Coding - Provide a simple consistent format and color-coding system that can be retroactively applied to existing guides, and used for any future content as applicable
C) Curate - Although the information is relatively static, some guides (such as a few of the epic guides) were made 5+ years ago and could use a little touch up
With that in mind what I'm looking for is anyone who is: detail focused, enjoys document style and formatting, and/or just wants to throw their two cents in to help me come up with a consistent framework and color-scheme for any future guides.
My In-Progress Guides
Below are links to Google Docs containing my current reformatted guides. Please note the google docs are intended TEMPORARY to make editing and collaborating easier, and will be moved into stand-alone threads once they have been properly vetted for accuracy and formatting consistency
One important thing I want to say, I never take any constructive criticism personally.
Please feel free to comment openly; guides are only a tool, and while all tools should be maintained and cared for they are ultimately made to be used, beaten-up, repaired, modified, repurposed, and eventually retired.
Open Questions
1) Should we cross-post guides between forum and the wiki, or is the forum our best source since it's "in-house" (I've never contributed to a wiki so I have 0 reference point to Sturm/Bupu's control over it)
2) Understandably, the bard/enchanter epic guides I've included are streamlined to the point of taking the 'fun' out of the epic quests. They are intended for people doing multiple prestiges. I am OK to silo those somewhere outside of the normal class / guides areas, and / or keep them to myself if they are seen as detrimental to new players.
3) What are thoughts on an updated version of new player guides, maybe broken out by progression tier? I think Arek's Progression guides are rock solid and need no replacement, but sometimes when to gear, stop and farm AAs, etc. can be a bit hard for new players to determine.
I apologize if any of this is a re-hash of discussions that have already taken place. Feel free to let me know and I'll cross things off if they've been beaten into the ground already.
Let me know your thoughts here or in game, I look forward to it!
