If I want to open up a mule trader on the server , I had some questions:
1. Do I have to be online with that trader for it to work? 2. How do I get the trader working? I guess I would need a trader sachel etc.

Yeah, I'm surprised there's no guide about this. I had to bug people in game to get setup.
So you create a new account (you are allowed the two accounts to box together and then a third if it's a trader). That extra account, once you've become a trader will lock and only allow other traders on it. You go to #zone bazaar and buy the trading backpacks (they come in colors!).
Then, you have to go up either the blue banner or red banner hallways to the teleporter which sends you to another area. Then, run up any of those tunnels to the wooden boards where you can begin the trading function. For future, I'd get #loc coords here and make a macro so you can fast hop each time you log in to get your trader going instead of manually running up all the time.
Once you open the trader function, you set your prices. Make sure you click the item, enter the amount (which is the amount PER item if you have a stack for example) and then click "set price". If you don't click "set price" each time, it won't let you click "begin trading". Once prices are set, click begin trading and all your items should be highlighted green showing you're good to go.
Then, run back to bazaar front room (or make macro with #loc to tp fast) and stand somewhere people can find you. It says there is an "offline mode" but this does not work on Imperium. If you need to log out and change computers or overnight, you will have to do the process above to get trading again. Hence, the macros with #loc are helpful.
