1. I thought as well this meant one computer. What reinforced that idea was that it talked about you could have bots, multiple bots. And when you combine that with the fact there are accelerated experience rates, tuned mobs and etc, (.e.g it's easier when alone) then one would think that being able to dual box AND bot is overkill
The wording could definitely do with amending
2. Mobs die easy enough though not silly easy. It's still more slow paced compared to modern MMOs yet not as slow as original EverQuest. And should you do it without any bots or dual boxing, then it's definitely not 'fast'
Some of your abilities and melee attacks are a % stronger than they would be at your level when on vanilla/Project 1999 however you're not insanely strong. What keeps you alive really is that you have greater natural health, stats and regen
That said, you can easily get yourself into trouble with multiple mobs/camps/dungeons.
Which leads onto
3. Bots are sorta similar to Henchman though on this server better in some ways, worse than others
You can create them in-game, and set some parameters about them. They can be given armor, weapons and etc. They are always matching your level
At best, buff companions though they are surprisingly adept at casting spells /committing actions. Will they ever crowd control in combat efficiently to act up as a human player, no, that crowd control base element of EverQuest is still going to be a challenge. You'd be better off playing the Enchanter/Bard yourself and letting the bots do the basic actions of tank/heal.
As someone very versed in original/Project 1999 I understand your concerns and possibly empathize how you found yourself looking for another server
Should you not mind post Velious era content, and that you won't be always playing with others - this might be a nice compromise
To clarify you don't have to play with others for basic PVE, though you can if you like. It won't be a waste of time such as modern games where things die quickly that seems no point to do anything other than solo
You do not have to take bots with you, nor must you two-box. As we know some classes in EverQuest were better at soloing, and this has not changed for the old world content
With the tuning and changes on the server, you can log on, goto many places and enjoy playing without the necessity to wait on others. The difficulty is up to you in teh sense of whether you are completely alone, botting, boxing etc.
Some notes about obvious changes ;
-Spells are granted automatically on level up
-Death will incur experience loss however you respawn with your items and your buffs (corpse run is still possible for getting an experience % ressurrection)
In summary :
It really is worth a try - being able to hop on at any time you like and go to all the classic and favorite spots and play the content that's still challenging yet now more interesting as you have power of your own destiny.
Hi all. New player with some questions.
1. I was initially attracted by your EQEmu server description stating a "1 box limit". But reading through the forums everyone is talking about boxing. So a little confused there. I do not like boxing but prefer a social experience, seeking groups and a cooperative guild.
2. Also reading that Imperium is tuned for Solo play; does that mean the server exp is trivially fast? Mobs die easy? Mechanics can be ignored? EQ played like Diablo2? I really do enjoy the journey from peasant in cloth armor to particle effect hero. Again, I do enjoy the cooperative play of different classes and their human players exploring the gameworld, does that mean people dont group or?
3. What are bots exactly? is that AI henchmen or mercenaries or whatever their called?
I'm a refugee from P1999 which i intensely enjoyed for 6 years, however its stuck at Velious and I am very bored of Velious. So I am really excited to see Imperium's custom content and new zones and challenges. I've tried pretty much every server on EQEmu login lol. Between box army servers playing EQ like it was Starcraft, and easymode hacking friendly servers, to mostly dead servers, etc... i'm losing faith that there is a EQ out there for me. Yes, i've tried a TLP and it made me /vomit /instant-buyers-remorse. Really would appreciate any honest answers. Got your client almost downloaded and excited to start. thanks
