Currently, pet-only spells (pet heals, pet buffs, etc) require that the pet be targeted - sometimes they'll auto-target pet, sometimes they won't.
The beastlord 2.0 does not require that the pet be targeted, does not change your target, and 'just works' to hit the pet.
It would be very, very, very cool if all pet-only spells and clickies had this behavior.

I would need the name of spells that are not behaving in such a manner.

I would need the name of spells that are not behaving in such a manner. It will be a long list. I will start collecting names when I get back from work trip.

Beastlord: (Important to not change target, frequently cast in combat) Growl of the Puma Rk III Growl of the Panther Growl of the Leopard Lockfang Jaws Rk III Steelfang Jaws Rk I-III (Redundant!) Promised Recovery Rk III (I don't think this heals heal bonus from gear, so probably not actually useful to anyone) Salve of Feldan Rk III Promised Mending Rk 1-III (Redundant! & See Promised Recovery) Healing of Uluanes Rk I-III (Redundant!) Healing of Mikkily Healing of Sorsha Sha's Restoration Aid of Khurenz Vigor of Zehkes Yekan's Recovery Herikol's Soothing Keshuval's Rejuvenation Sharik's Replenishing
(Less important, but annoying!) Peerless Penchant Rk III Unparalleled Voracity Rk I-III (Redundant spells, btw!) Growl of the Beast Arag's Celerity Sha's Ferocity Omakin's Alacrity Bond of the Wild Yekan's Quickening Spirit of Jeswin Rk III Frothing Vengeance Rk I-III (Redundant!) Spirit of Lairn Rk I-III (Redundant!) Spirit of Oroshar Spirit of Irionu Spirit of Rellic Spirit of Flame Spirit of Snow Spirit of the Storm Spirit of Wind Spirit of Vermin Spirit of the Scorpion Spirit of Inferno Spirit of Blizzard Spirit of Lightning
There are also the Block\Spellblock buffs, but I don't think anyone actually uses them due to server mechanics.
Will do mage in a bit.

I did notice that if I have no target at all than there was a greater chance it would not retarget my pet.

Might of the Wild Spirits has a different Target Type than, for example, Spirit of Flame.

Actually, I'll spin up a dev server and figure out how to do it. Will get back to you with specifics.

You can create a social macro to target pets, cast spell and return focus back to mob. Should be something like:
/tar "pet name" /pause 5, /cast "spellID" /pause "<cast time> +.2", /xtar 1
Will target pet, cast spell, wait a half second and then re-target the first mob in extended list.
